Contamination with Aflatoxin B1 in maize originating from Hungary or Slovakia

Contamination with Aflatoxin B1 is observed in maize gluten feed, produced from maize originating from Hungary or Slovakia. Be alert! This EWS alert is of immediate effect.

What is the issue?

GMP+ International has been informed about maize gluten feed delivered, containing increased levels of Aflatoxin B1. All affected batches of maize gluten feed are traced, and the involved feed companies are informed.

The maize gluten feed is a by-product of maize starch production, which is a full continuous production process. The affected batches were produced from maize collected from several European countries and stored together. The country of origin of the contaminated batch(es) of maize is still unclear. Considering the processing factor for Aflatoxin B1 in maize gluten feed is 4, the levels up to 0,013 mg/kg (13 ppb) are possible in maize. Depending on the target animals the contaminant can exceed the limit(s).
